Which 2008 Fiesta do you have?

The wing mirror fuse differs between versions of the 2008 Ford Fiesta. Until you choose, every possible result is shown.

Not sure which version you have?
  • Ford’s handbook shows 2 passenger fuse box layouts (Type 1 and Type 2) but doesn’t say which cars have which.
  • Type 1: Ford’s chart lists fuses 1–27 and 1 relay.
  • Type 2: Ford’s chart lists fuses 1–49 and 12 relays.
  • Open the passenger fuse box (behind the glove box) and compare it with each chart before removing anything.

If you can’t confirm it, keep both results in mind and check the fuse box legend before removing anything.

How to replace the fuse safely

  1. Switch off the ignition and all electrical equipment. Take the key out, or move a keyless fob away from the car.
  2. Open the fuse box and find the fuse using the number on the cover legend or the chart on this page.
  3. Pull the fuse straight out with the plastic fuse puller (usually clipped inside the fuse box) or fine-nose pliers.
  4. Look at the metal strip inside the fuse. A broken or burnt strip means it has blown.
  5. Fit a new fuse with exactly the same amperage rating. The number on top and the colour should match.
  6. Refit the cover, switch on and test the component.
  • Never fit a fuse with a higher amperage rating than specified. It can let wiring overheat.
  • Never bridge a fuse with wire, foil or anything else.

Checking the relay

  1. With the ignition off, pull the relay straight out of its socket. Rock it gently if it is tight.
  2. Relays rarely look damaged when they fail. To test, swap in an identical relay with the same part number from a non-essential circuit.
  3. If the fault moves to the other circuit, replace the relay. If it doesn’t, the problem is elsewhere.

Fuse keeps blowing?

A fuse that blows again straight away is doing its job. Something on that circuit is drawing too much current. Common causes are damaged wiring shorting to the bodywork, a failing motor or socket, water getting in, or a faulty accessory. Fitting fuse after fuse, or a bigger fuse, won’t fix the fault and can overheat the wiring. Have the circuit tested by an auto electrician.

Not the fuse? Check these next.

  • Which function failed?

Adjustment, heating and folding can be on different circuits. Note exactly which one has stopped before checking fuses.

  • Mirror heating

Heated mirrors often only work with the engine running, and may switch on with the heated rear window.

  • Damaged mirror

After a knock, the mirror motor or its wiring inside the door can be damaged even if the glass looks fine.
