Partly covered: Vauxhall published August 2015, January 2016 and February 2016 Astra handbooks that could apply to a 2016 car, and their fuse charts differ. Vauxhall doesn’t say which cars each edition applies to, so we can’t tell which one matches a particular 2016 Astra. Every official chart is shown below — check the edition printed near the end of your handbook, or compare with the fuse box legend in your car, before removing anything.
Where is the fuse box?
Option A Handbook edition August 2015 or Handbook edition January 2016
Engine compartment fuse box
The fuse box is in the front left of the engine compartment.
- Disengage the cover and fold it upwards until it stops.
- Remove the cover vertically upwards.
- After having changed defective fuses, close the fuse box cover and press until it engages.
- If the fuse box cover is not closed correctly, malfunction may occur.
Option B Handbook edition February 2016
Instrument panel fuse box
Instrument panel (Vauxhall: “The fuse box is located behind a cover.”).
- Pull the cover and remove.
- Vehicles with power connector: If the fuse cover has a power connector, it must be removed by using an adapter and a screwdriver.
- The adapter is stowed in the glovebox.
- The screwdriver is stowed in the load compartment.
- Attach the adapter to the power connector.
- Push the screwdriver through the recess in the adapter.
- Remove the cover by pulling the screwdriver.
- After having changed defective fuses, close the fuse box cover and press until it engages.
- Vehicles with power connector:
- 1. Apply the cover on the right side.
- 2. Fold the left side of the cover forwards.
- Take care that the securing clamp is guided as shown in the illustration.

How to replace the fuse safely
- Switch off the ignition and all electrical equipment. Take the key out, or move a keyless fob away from the car.
- Open the fuse box and find the fuse using the number on the cover legend or the chart on this page.
- Pull the fuse straight out with the plastic fuse puller (usually clipped inside the fuse box) or fine-nose pliers.
- Look at the metal strip inside the fuse. A broken or burnt strip means it has blown.
- Fit a new fuse with exactly the same amperage rating. The number on top and the colour should match.
- Refit the cover, switch on and test the component.
- Never fit a fuse with a higher amperage rating than specified. It can let wiring overheat.
- Never bridge a fuse with wire, foil or anything else.
Fuse keeps blowing?
A fuse that blows again straight away is doing its job. Something on that circuit is drawing too much current. Common causes are damaged wiring shorting to the bodywork, a failing motor or socket, water getting in, or a faulty accessory. Fitting fuse after fuse, or a bigger fuse, won’t fix the fault and can overheat the wiring. Have the circuit tested by an auto electrician.
Not the fuse? Check these next.
One window or all?
If only one window has stopped, its switch, motor or regulator is the likely cause. A fuse usually affects several windows.
Window lock switch
Check the driver’s window lock button hasn’t been pressed — it disables the rear (and sometimes passenger) switches.
Listen at the door
A click or hum with no movement points to a failed regulator rather than a fuse.
