Which 2014 Focus do you have?

The headlight fuse differs between versions of the 2014 Ford Focus. Until you choose, every possible result is shown.

Not sure which Focus you have?
  • Ford UK lists the 2014 Focus under more than one model name: Focus (2010) and Focus Electric (2013). Their fuse layouts differ.
  • Ford UK’s Owner Manuals page can find your car’s handbook from its VIN. The page it opens is titled with Ford’s model name, for example “Focus (2010)”.
  • Your printed owner’s handbook, or a franchised dealer with your VIN, can also confirm it.

If you can’t confirm it, keep both results in mind and check the fuse box legend before removing anything.

How to replace the fuse safely

  1. Switch off the ignition and all electrical equipment. Take the key out, or move a keyless fob away from the car.
  2. Open the fuse box and find the fuse using the number on the cover legend or the chart on this page.
  3. Pull the fuse straight out with the plastic fuse puller (usually clipped inside the fuse box) or fine-nose pliers.
  4. Look at the metal strip inside the fuse. A broken or burnt strip means it has blown.
  5. Fit a new fuse with exactly the same amperage rating. The number on top and the colour should match.
  6. Refit the cover, switch on and test the component.
  • Never fit a fuse with a higher amperage rating than specified. It can let wiring overheat.
  • Never bridge a fuse with wire, foil or anything else.

Fuse keeps blowing?

A fuse that blows again straight away is doing its job. Something on that circuit is drawing too much current. Common causes are damaged wiring shorting to the bodywork, a failing motor or socket, water getting in, or a faulty accessory. Fitting fuse after fuse, or a bigger fuse, won’t fix the fault and can overheat the wiring. Have the circuit tested by an auto electrician.

Not the fuse? Check these next.

  • Blown bulb

If only one side is out, a failed bulb is far more likely than a fuse. Check the bulb first.

  • Headlight switch or stalk

If dipped and main beam behave differently, the switch or stalk may be at fault.

  • Relay or control module

If both sides fail at the same moment, suspect a relay, the switch or the lighting control module.

  • Earth connection

Dim or flickering lights often come from a corroded earth point rather than the fuse.
